Photo Assistant Boot Camp

“What’s the difference between this Photo Assistants Boot Camp and others?”
Working as a Photo Assistant is one of the best ways of learning the inner workings of the commercial photo industry, and as a way to become more technically skilled at lighting and production. Photo Assistant Boot Camp is a 2 day intensive Hands on workshop. You will be working with every piece of equipment that you would regularly come across during your first 6 -9 months of assisting. We produce this Boot Camp ourselves and we present many different studio strobe manufacturers equipment. 
“No company sales reps are present at these workshops.” We’re here to teach you not try and convince you to consider buying some companies products. Our proven method of teaching old-school photo knowledge, on set skills, set-etiquette, and business practices mean you are better prepared then others. Please note that this is not a ‘Photography 101′ type of workshop attendees should have a working knowledge of photography.

About the instructor

James Sullivan has been working in the commercial photo industry for the past 22 years, 18 of those in NYC.
Beginning as a Photo Assistant, and in time being hired as a lighting technician by photographers and later moving on to producer, photographer/director.

Recently James has been working on a series of documentary videos for a client as well as working as a freelance photographer for SAKS.Com shooting Fashion and product stills. Some of the more notable photographers that James has worked with over the years as a photo assistant assistant/lighting tech include: Mark Seliger, Francesco Scavullo, Steven Klein, Kelly Klein, Taryn Simon, Warwick Saint, Norman Jean Roy, Michel Comte, Anotine Verglas, Gregg Delves, Guzman Studio, Marco Glaviano, Andrew Eccles, Christopher Michaud, Diego Uchitel, Frank Ockenfels and dozens more…

Kevin Ames

Kevin Ames is a commercial photographer immersed in creativity. His photographs have appeared in Time, Newsweek, The Wall Street Journal and on the covers of Professional Photographer, Photoshop User, Jezebel and Atlanta Sports and Fitness magazines. He works for corporate clients including at&t, Carter’s, Honda and Westin Hotels.

Kevin writes “The Digital Photograher’s Notebook” column for Photoshop User magazine. He has authored four books on digital photography including one for the extremely popular “Dummies” series.

He teaches photographic and digital imaging workshops and classes across the United States, Canada and Europe. His studio and home are located in Atlanta, Georgia USA.

Rick Friedman has been a photojournalist for over three decades. Based in Boston, he travels the world for numerous publications, corporations, advertising assignments and film and television productions. His published work appears in Time, Newsweek, U.S. News, The New York Times, USA Today, The Guardian, Der Spiegel, Stern, Discover and many other publications. He has produced over 75 book and magazine covers. The books Hillary Clinton, Infra Structures, and The Gourmet Prescription are a few of his projects.

He is currently the President of the Boston Press Photographers Association. Friedman has won awards from the American Society of Media Photographers, the National Press Photographers Association, and the Boston Press Photographers Association.
